If you’d like to cut down on the medications you’re taking, all you need is a good dose of nature, three times a week! According to the journal Occupational and Environmental Medicine, going for a walk in a park, along a lake, or any tree-lined space can reduce the need for medication for anxiety, asthma, depression, high blood pressure and insomnia. It’s not just being in nature – it’s that, combined with physical activity.
The study found walking in nature three to four times a week was associated with 36% lower odds of using blood pressure pills, 33% lower odds of using mental health medications, and 26% lower odds of using asthma medications.
But seeing nature outside a window while indoors did not reduce the need for medication. The study subjects had to be immersed in nature.
So, if you’re looking to cut down on the number of pills you’re taking, talk to your doctor first and then try this nature prescription to see if it helps….And I will too!
